Moonlight Bay Resort

Moonlight Bay is the only resort in Koh Lanta on an effectively private beach. Though Thai law forbids any beach from actually being private property, the location means that the only access is from the sea or through the resort. Lying at the far end of Klong Tob, an otherwise deserted stretch of coast, Moonlight Bay is further separated from the rest of the beach and the road by a river running through the property.
This makes it an ideal 'getaway' location for honeymooners - though the very steep stairs to reach most of the hillside rooms would prevent infirm or unfit couples from enjoying their romantic break. The natural topography - steep cliffs, river, and large rocks scattered over the small bay - gives the place plenty of character (sometimes lacking in the majority of Koh Lanta's flat, wide stretches of sand) and the sympathetically designed bungalows, high on stilts and with a rustic finish blend in well with their environment.
There are 5 categories of room, as follows:
River view: Available in double or twin, these are located nearest the road, and their balconies overlook the mangrove-lined river. It is a 200m walk to the beach. The most basic of the rooms, they have teakwood floors, wooden beds and are all air conditioned, with a fridge, TV and hot water kettle. They would be suitable for nature lovers as there is plenty of opprtunity to spot birds and even monkeys from the balcony.
Forest view: The first in the hillside rooms, these are located closest to the swimming pool area, on high stilts. They have a bamboo exterior and light wood floors with a big outdoor sun terrace. The bathroom is semi open-air, with shower only. They are air-conditioned and offer the same amenities as the River view rooms, as well as a telephone.
Sea view: The 5 sea view bungalows are on the second row behind the Beach front rooms, so the view is partial (impeded slightly by roofs and trees). They are similar in style and facilities to the Forest view bungalows (see above).
Beach front: Again accessed via steep stairs, the beach front rooms are on the first row overlooking the beach and have a truly breathtaking, unimpeded view of the ocean from on high - far better than the "seaview" rooms in most resorts. The bungalows have a wooden exterior, with teakwood floors, a large bathroom with shower, and an outdoor jacuzzi on the balcony. In-room facilities are the same as the Forest view rooms.
Honeymoon suite: These rooms are secluded from the rest of the resort, along a short path over the clifftop. They are also beachfront, with panoramic sea views, and a large, wrap-around terrace. The double jacuzzi and sun loungers on the balcony are protected by a private screen. The interior of the room has a high vaulted ceiling and is nicely decorated with bamboo panelling and silk furnishings. There is also a small table and chair set for in-room dining - one complimentary dinner is offered to all guests staying in this room. In addition to the usual facilities (see above), the Honeymoon suite offers a TV with DVD player, hairdryer and a daybed. The bathroom is large, with seaview, and has a wardrobe and small dressing area.
All the rooms are served by pure mountain water pumped in from a source further up the hill. The water is also used in the NaLanta Spa, which is located near the beachfront restaurant, bar and average sized swimming pool. The restaurant itself serves good Thai food, a blessing as there are not really any other options nearby (on foot). Most guests tend to eat in the resort. There is a tour service for daytrips in and around the island. For information about wedding packages, please contact us directly with details about your group.
The beach in front of the resort is small, with large boulders dotted around; both sand and water are very clean, though the sea is only swimmable at high tide.
